Field visit impressions

During the month of January 2010, the CCPA office in Lebanon conducted visits to several of the Lebanese Popular Clubs.
Here is an impression from one of these visits:

Subj: Bint Jbeil

What a crazy trip to Bint Jbeil today. Incredibly we managed to get down there – and back again –  in one piece. The roads were all in a very bad condition; collapsed, falling rocks, overflowing rivers, hailstorms and a lot of water. From above, from below and from all sides.
I have never experienced a flood like this. I felt so sorry for poor Omar - had to act rally driver for 5 hours, and then on his birthday. He is a good guy.

The visit to Bint Jbeil turned out to be very interesting.  And yes, they seemed truly happy for our visit. I think it is a very important observation…it is great to see our visits actually mean something. The coaches want to show what they and the clubs can do, how happy they are with the cooperation and how much they have done since the start of the project.
A visit by the office – and one all the way from Denmark – certainly means something, and is necessary; We must visit all the clubs. As Hussein told me, many coaches are a bit down as they would like more encouragement and further education and meetings etc. …the kind of follow-up activities that keeps them up to the mark. A visit can also contribute to this end!
During the last couple of weeks the office has met 17 Popular Clubs (in connection with distribution of equipment and Mini Tournaments) – and weather permitting, we will reach 24 Popular Clubs before I leave Lebanon.

Except from just showing the face of CCPA, it is of course also interesting to see how the different coaches are managing the Mini Tournaments. Today, due to the weather, it took place indoor at a school (a good pitch, actually!), and there were children from three different clubs, around 30 kids –  and 4 very active and committed coaches. The clubs came from different cazas (counties) and the coaches said that they had got to know one another, and are now good friends, through Bilal’s activities in the area. The coaches fully understood the idea about mixing the teams and the rotations between the different mini pitches.

The school principal offered the school facilities free of charge to Bilal and said that if CCPA ever wanted to organize a bigger tournament or something else where the participants should stay over the night, we should be more than welcome. The school had dorm rooms, restaurant etc.

Tomorrow I was supposed to visit Sabra and see a guy train a possible club with a lot of ”mixed” kids. But the weather has not been good to the pitch, so he comes to the office instead and talks with Omar and me.

Now, I’m off to bed – thunder and lightning outside…
Good night,
Jens
